About the Coalition

The Shareholder Communications Coalition consists of the following organizations:
Business Roundtable. Business Roundtable (BRT) is an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies with nearly $6 trillion in annual revenues and more than 13 million employees. BRT member companies comprise nearly a third of the total value of the U.S. stock markets and invest more than $114 billion annually in research and development - nearly half of all private U.S. R&D spending. Our companies pay more than $179 billion in dividends to shareholders and generate an estimated $1.5 trillion in sales for small businesses annually. Business Roundtable companies give more than $7 billion a year in combined charitable contributions, representing nearly 60 percent of total corporate giving. www.businessroundtable.org.
National Investor Relations Institute. Founded in 1969, the National Investor Relations Institute is a professional association of corporate officers and investor relations consultants responsible for communication among corporate management, the investing public, and the financial community. The Institute's members represent the majority of the largest publicly held corporations in the U.S. as well as many small and mid-sized companies. With over 4,400 members in 33 chapters around the country, the Institute sets the highest standards in education to advance the practice of investor relations and meet the growing professional development needs of those engaged in the field. www.niri.org.
Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals. The Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals, founded in 1946 as the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, has over 3,800 members representing approximately 2,600 companies. The Society's members deal with public disclosure under the securities laws and matters affecting corporate governance, including the structure and meetings of the board of directors and its committees, the proxy process, and the annual meeting of shareholders and shareholder relations, especially with large institutional owners. The Society acts as a positive force for enlightened corporate governance and changed its name to the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals in January 2005 to demonstrate the importance it places on this key mission. www.governanceprofessionals.org.
